Receipts
Scan receipts with Smart Scan
Take a photo of a receipt or upload a PDF, and Smart Scan fills in the merchant, amount, currency, date and category.
Smart Scan reads a photo or PDF of a receipt and turns it into an expense: merchant, amount, currency, date, category and a short description of what you bought. It is included on every plan.
Upload a receipt
- On a computer: on your dashboard, click Upload and choose one or more files. You can also drag files anywhere onto the page.
- On a phone: tap +, then Take photo to use your camera, or Upload receipt to choose a photo or file.
You can upload up to 10 files at once. See Files and scan limits for the formats and sizes.
What happens next
- Each receipt appears in a card at the top of your dashboard with the status Processing.
- Smart Scan reads it, usually within seconds. You don't need to refresh: the row updates by itself.
- When it is done, the status changes to Added and a message shows the merchant and amount.
What Smart Scan reads
| Field | What it takes from the receipt |
|---|---|
| Merchant | The name you would recognize, such as the shop or brand, not the company's legal name |
| Amount | The total you paid, not a subtotal |
| Currency | The currency on the receipt. Check it after scanning a receipt in a less common currency |
| Date | The date on the receipt. If there is none, today's date |
| Category | The best match from your categories, including the ones you create, or Other. You can change it at any time |
| Description | A short summary of the items you bought |
Smart Scan reads receipts in many languages and understands both 42.50 and 42,50.
Check and edit the details
Every field can be changed. Edit a row straight in the scan card, or later in your expense list. To see the receipt you uploaded, click the eye icon: images and PDFs open in a viewer where you can zoom in.
Duplicates
When a scanned or forwarded receipt has the same merchant, amount and date as another expense in the same workspace, both are marked Duplicate (Possible duplicate on a phone). Nothing is deleted, so you decide which one to keep.
